Biography

Martin Yates conducting debut was with the Israel National Orchestra: La TraviataLa Bohème, Tosca and Madama Butterfly.

His ballet work includes:  for The Royal Ballet, Agon, Manon, Mayerling, Romeo and Juliet, Swan Lake, Symphony in C, and Don Quixote; for Finnish National Ballet, La Sylphide, Manon; for Royal Swedish Ballet, The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Onegin; for Dutch National Ballet, The Nutcracker, Onegin, Rite of Spring, The Firebird, Pulcinella; for Netherlands Dance Theatre, Les Noces and for Norwegian National Ballet Don Quixote.

He regularly conducts the BBC Concert Orchestra and has conducted Poems in the Park in Hyde Park three times.  He has conducted many of Europe’s major orchestras including the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Tonhalle-Orchester, London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Royal Scottish National Orchestra, with whom he has made over thirty recordings.  His orchestrations and completions include Pageant of Empire (Elgar), Symphony No. 2 (Moeran), Symphony No. 7 (Arnell), Sarnia (Ireland) and the ballets Four Schumann Pieces (Van  Manen) and Manon.
