Biography
Nic Petry is the owner and Creative Director of Dancing Camera, a New York City-based video production company composed of multidisciplinary artists that creates bold, moving visuals. A professional dancer of 15 years and counting, Petry derives deep inspiration from his work with The Bang Group, whose rhythm-driven works probe the unique alchemy of percussive dancing with strains of Cecchetti ballet, contemporary dance, and even musicals in a setting of pressurized theatricality.
Before arriving in New York in 2005, Petry received an MFA in Choreography and Performance from the University of Illinois, where he developed a student-run video production arm of the dance department. His first degree, in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Princeton University, led him into the Panamanian jungle where he nocturnally tracked ocelots with microphone collars and discovered a beetle species. Petry strongly believes in the volatile intermix of rigor and instinct.
