Paul Cox

Biography

Artist, graphic designer, stage designer Paul Cox was born in Paris in 1959. Self-taught in art, he studied art history and literature and majored on Laurence Sterne. Cox has published numerous artist’s books, children’s books, designed posters for operas and theatres, and has been a member of the AGI (Alliance Graphique Internationale) since 2003. Cox has started collecting the whole of his work (paintings, installations, illustrations, graphic design etc) in book form, the first volume of which, Coxcodex 1 was published at Editions du Seuil in 2004. He showed a huge installation, Jeu de Construction, at the Centre Pompidou in Paris in 2005. For Benjamin Millepied, Cox designed the sets and costumes for The Nutcracker and Petrouchka (Grand Théâtre de Genève, 2006 and 2007), Amoveo (Opéra Garnier, Paris, 2009), Les Sylphides and Le Spectre de la Rose (Geneva, 2011). Cox currently lives and works in Paris, Arles and Tokyo. Troika is Cox’s first work for American Ballet Theatre.
