Ptolemy Gidney, from Northamptonshire, England, began dancing at the age of five at The Kilburn School of Dance in Wellingborough. At age 10, he appeared in London West End musicals including the lead roles of Charlie in Charlie in the Chocolate Factory and Bruce in Matilda. Following his time in the West End, Gidney trained for five years at The Royal Ballet School White Lodge. He received The April Olrich Award in his final year of training at White Lodge. Gidney continued his training at The Royal Ballet Upper School for three years. In his second year, Gidney won third prize in The Royal Ballet School’s Lynn Seymour Awards, performing an excerpt from Akram Khan’s Creature.
In February 2025, Gidney joined American Ballet Theatre Studio Company, where his repertoire included Bernstein in a Bubble, Cerulean Skies, Cornbread, Gopak, Interplay, Variations for Three, the pas d’action from La Bayadère, and the pas de deux from An American in Paris. He performed in Alexei Ratmansky’s The Nutcracker with ABT’s main Company in 2025.
Gidney joined American Ballet Theatre as an apprentice in 2026.
