Sarah Deming

Sarah Deming is a writer and fitness professional with a deep love for teaching. She was the 2001 NYC Golden Gloves and Empire State Games featherweight boxing champion and now trains and tutors young athletes at NYC Cops and Kids, a free community gym in East Flatbush, where she has worked with multiple national champions and Olympians. Sarah holds certifications in Kripalu and Anusara-style Hatha Yoga and recently completed the Kane School Pilates training at Kinected, where she is an apprentice instructor. A graduate of Brown University, she has published two novels for young people and been awarded a MacDowell Fellowship and Pushcart Prize. Her essays have appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, Threepenny Review and been noted in Best American Essays and Best American Sportswriting.
