Tal Yarden

Biography

Tal Yarden creates, designs, directs, and shoots visual content for a variety of mediums. He specializes in work for live events including dance, theater, opera, special events and music performances.  His work has been seen throughout Europe and the United States.

Recent designs include The Half-God of Rainfall (NYTW), Becky Nurse of Salem (LCT), Hamlet (Armory), Ocean Filibuster (ART), I Hate Memory (Public), A Walk on the Moon (George St), Get Up, Stand Up (Lyric, West End), Anna X (Pinter, West End), Oedipus (Toneelgroep Amsterdam), Boris Godounov, (Paris Opera), Sunday in the Park with George (Broadway), Salome (DNO), Les Damnés (Comedie Francaise), Obsessione (Barbican), The Exterminating Angel (MET), The Crucible (Broadway), Lazarus (NYTW),  Indecent (Broadway), La Clemenza de Tito (Opera Narodowa Warsaw), Antigone (Barbican), Between Worlds (ENO), Kings of War (Toneelgroep Amsterdam), Ali (The Musical) directed by Clint Dyer, Crime and Punishment (American Ballet Theatre), and Oedipus (West End).

Previous designs include Brokeback Mountain (Teatro Real Madrid), La Clemenza de Tito (La Monnaie/De Munt), Der Schatzgräber (De Nederlandse Opera), Mazeppa (Komische Oper Berlin) and Macbeth (Opéra de Lyon), Ludwig II (Münchner Kammerspiele), Edward II, The Misanthrope (Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz), Idomeneo (La Monnaie/De Munt), POP! (Yale Repertory), The Fountainhead, Husbands, The Russians, Children of the Sun, Cries and Whispers, Antonioni Project, Angels in America, Mourning becomes Electra, Roman Tragedies for Toneelgroep Amsterdam, Wagner’s Ring Cycle for the Vlaamse Opera, ZOOM (ZviDance), Futura (NAATCO), Pavel Zustiak’s Le Petit Mort, Mark Wing-Davey’s Monkey in the Middle and Stephen Petronio’s The King is Dead (with Cindy Sherman) and Not Garden, Reza Abdoh’s Tight Right White and Quotations from a Ruined City, and Tim Feldmann’s Twin-Project.  Additionally, he was the production designer for Patricia Fox’s Corpus Exquisitus and A Dog and Pony Show.  In New York, Yarden has designed Distracted (Roundabout Theater), Little Foxes, Liberty City, Beast, The Misanthrope (Drama Desk Nomination), Lush Valley, Sounding (HERE) and Kaos (New York Theater Workshop), John Jesurun’s Chang in a Void Moon, Mikel Rouse’s Dennis Cunningham, and DD Dorvillier’s Wind.  He was a resident lighting and projection designer for Conway & Pratt’s site-specific installations including, Too Close to Home, As a Dream that Vanishes and A Woman’s Work is Never Done.  He has also created visual designs for Mia Lawrence, Kyle de Camp, Patricia Hoffbauer and George Sanchez, Circus Flora, Jim Simpson, Jo Andres, Margarita Guergue, Aaron Landsman, Clarinda Mac Low and Nina Martin.  In 1994, he co-founded the theater company Chashama for which he created the site-specific shows Jr. Black’s Office and Disease Machine.

In addition, Yarden has produced and designed numerous events, video installations, and projections for clients including the United Nations, LG, Microsoft, The New York Times, Quin Hotel, Shinnyo-En, Smart Car, Puma, Levis, The Juilliard School, Coca-Cola, CFDA, Heineken, Red Cross, Reem Acra, Rimmel, Armani, Visionaire, Ghost, Rosa Cha, Timberland, and Ford Thunderbird. He has also acted as VJ and directed live video for Annie Lennox, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Alicia Keys, Snoop Dogg, James Brown, Garbage, Nicodemus, Wyclef Jean, Peaches, Patti Smith, Dane Cook, Moby, Lady Sovereign, and Ne-Yo.  He has lectured and taught at The New School, Brown University, New York University, Fordham University, and Yale University.
