Taylor Edelle Stuart is a film and theatre director, projection designer, and sometimes actor. Her directorial projects frequently explore the visual language of dreams, queerness, a sense of fragmented self, and the ways technology and media shape our identities and desires. As a projection designer, Stuart’s work focuses on the interplay between digital media and physical bodies and spaces by cultivating harmony and tension between theatrical and cinematic modes.
Stuart co-designed projections for the world premiere of the musical The Outsiders and designed video for the National Tour of R.E.S.P.E.C.T., a concert series celebrating the life and work of Aretha Franklin, among many others. She also frequently serves as Associate Projection Designer, Assistant Projection Designer, and Animator on a wide variety of projects on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and regionally.
Stuart directs music videos and short form video. She is a director on the television series Boy Shorts. Stuart was a member of the inaugural emerging directors lab at The Mercury Store, where she developed and presented an original work entitled I Told You When I Came I Was A Stranger, under the advisement of Leigh Silverman and Aya Ogawa. Stuart co-owns and serves as the creative director of Paddock Pictures, a full-service production company that produces narrative and documentary films, as well as video content for theater, live events, and immersive entertainment.
Stuart is based in Brooklyn, New York and Council Bluffs, Iowa. She is a member of USA 829.
