SAKS FIFTH AVENUE COMMITS TO THE RESTORATION OF AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE'S LEGENDARY COSTUMES

New York, New York – December 8, 2003 – Saks Fifth Avenue is threading the needle for American Ballet Theatre. Saks, as Leading Corporate Sponsor of the ABT Costume Fund, has donated an initial gift of $50,000 to the Company’s new campaign. This critical initiative is dedicated to the restoration, replacement, and archiving of ABT’s vast collection of costumes, many of which date from the 1940’s and are still used today. As one of the industry’s leading luxury retailers, Saks understands the craftsmanship and care that is essential for the creation and preservation of these unique pieces of art.

ABT is America’s national ballet company and one of the most prominent dance companies in the world. Throughout its history, ABT has forged creative partnerships with some of the most distinguished choreographers in dance including ballet legends Sir Frederick Ashton and Agnes de Mille, as well as contemporary masters Twyla Tharp, Mark Morris, and Paul Taylor. The Company has been home to such legendary performers as Mikhail Baryshnikov, Natalia Makarova and Cynthia Gregory, as well as the acclaimed stars of today including Paloma Herrera, Angel Corella and Ethan Stiefel.
