King Leontes of Sicilia is crippled with an all-consuming jealousy when his friend, King Polixenes of Bohemia, comes to stay with him and his wife Hermione. What follows is a tale in which a marriage is destroyed, a child is abandoned, and hope lives on within two lovers. Receiving its ABT New York Premiere during the Company’s 2025 Summer season, The Winter’s Tale is an award-winning modern ballet classic, based on Shakespeare’s play and packed with emotional turmoil and compelling atmospheric designs, featuring choreography by two-time Tony Award® winner Christopher Wheeldon and an original score by Joby Talbot.

Behind the Scenes: The Winter's Tale Set

In April 2025, the crews from ABT and Segerstrom Center for the Arts worked tirelessly to load larger-than-life set pieces for The Winter’s Tale into Segerstrom Hall, ensuring every detail was perfectly arranged to bring Shakespeare’s magic to life in this production. Lights were hung, set pieces were assembled, and over the course of several hours of tireless work, the scenic designs of Tony Award®-winning theatrical designer Bob Crowley began to unfold.
