Of Love and RageABT OffStage: A 2020 Virtual Season

As the global health crisis made it impossible for our 80th Anniversary season at The Metropolitan Opera House to continue as planned, American Ballet Theatre OffStage: A 2020 Virtual Season brought artistry of ABT into homes everywhere.

Set across the Mediterranean in the ancient world, Alexei Ratmansky’s thrilling new production is based on Callirhoe, one of the earliest historical novels ever written. Of Love and Rage weaves the epic tale of the legendary beauty Callirhoe, her lover Chaereas and the daunting obstacles they navigate. Internationally-acclaimed designer Jean-Marc Puissant created a backdrop with fragmented archaeology to frame the lovers’ sweeping adventure. Explore the Of Love and Rage program, including orchestral performances and a conversation with Artist in Residence Alexei Ratmansky, Music Director Ormsby Wilkins, Principal Dancer Christine Shevchenko and Soloist Thomas Forster.
