A native of Kernersville, North Carolina, Isaac Stappas studied at the North Carolina School of the Arts for nine years. While at the school, Stappas trained under the direction of Duncan Noble, Warren Conover, Melissa Hayden, Fanchon Cordell, Nina Danilova and Frank Smith.

Prior to joining American Ballet Theatre, Stappas performed the role of Espada in Don Quixote, Vas Lav3=split by Mark Dendy and many other classical and contemporary works. He spent two years in ABT’s Studio Company before joining ABT’s main company in 2000.

Stappas’ repertoire with the Company includes Lorenzo in Don Quixote, Bottom in The Dream, the Pastor in Fall River Legend, Hilarion in Giselle, Death in The Green Table, the Jailer in Manon, the Chief Coachman in Petrouchka, the Head Wrangler in Rodeo, Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet, Catalabutte and the Spanish Prince in The Sleeping Beauty, von Rothbart in Swan Lake, Pluto in Sylvia, as well as roles in Airs, Artemis, Black Tuesday, Company B, Diversion of Angels, Drink To Me Only With Thine Eyes, Glow – Stop, HereAfter, In The Upper Room, The Leaves Are Fading, Marimba, Overgrown Path, Sechs Tänze, Sinfonietta, Within You Without You: A Tribute to George Harrison and workwithinwork. He created leading roles in Concerto No. 1 for Piano and Orchestra, Everything Doesn't Happen at Once, and Gong.
